WHAT IS IKIGAI?

Ikigai is a life philosophy involving daily rituals, living your values, building intimate relationships, and pursuing a life goal with a healthy sense of urgency. The link between Ikigai and surfing is clear – both bring us to slow down and learn to better appreciate the small joys of life, lean into our positive energy and live in the flow.

WHO WOULD LOVE THIS RETREAT?

  • You’re looking to improve your mentorship skills – as a mentee, mentor or peer-mentor.
  • You’re interested in applying Ikigai principles to personal and professional life.
  • You’re looking for inspiration!
  • You’re looking to take a step back from day-to-day and reflect on change.
  • You want to set new goals for the coming year.
  • You’re wanting to take a leap! (change careers, start a new business, retire…)
  • You do not need to be a Mentoro mentor or mentee to participate.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS

During the retreat, we’ll have three 60-minute interactive workshops, led by the same facilitator (see below for more info on Sandra) who will guide you through a fun and introspective journey:

  • Shared Inspiration: Spark ideas and gain fresh perspectives from fellow participants on their Ikigai journeys.
  • Dynamic Learning: Bounce off each other’s experiences and create a collaborative learning environment. Discuss how the ikigai philosophy applies to the concept of mentorship, whether you’re a mentee, mentor or peer-mentor.
  • Expert Guidance: Our facilitator will provide guidance, linking the theories of Ikigai to a concrete actionable plan towards your goal.

ABOUT THE IKIGAI FACILITATOR

Sandra Abi-Rashed (LinkedIn) is a senior executive with over 25 years of experience in marketing, adtech, business consulting and mentoring. She is also a certified Ikigai coach and has a passion for making connections in a purpose-driven way. Her mentoring non-profit organization, Mentoro (yes, she is one of the co-founders of Mentoro – this non-profit, this same website!) provides mentorship, guidance, support, and wisdom to young professionals to foster their personal and professional growth. Since its launch in 2016, the Mentoro program has connected over 1,200 mentors and mentees in Miami, New York and Montreal. Sandra was first exposed to the Ikigai philosophy while living in Japan almost 25 years ago. Her Ikigai coaching approach is anchored in understanding the eight Ikigai needs and how they can be used as a foundation for a purposeful and meaningful life  — and from there, developing a concrete plan with actionable steps to move closer to an Ikigai “sweet spot”. Her work and studies have brought her to live in Japan, France, Belgium and Brazil. Born in Montreal, Sandra now lives in Miami and has a been in love with Costa Rica for as long as she can remember. In 2023, she was awarded Top Women In Tech “Magnanimous Mentors” category by AdMonsters and AdExchanger, and recently received a runner-up award for Women Changing the World: Community Impact Award.
